From: Anthony Pereira

To: Almeida, Antonio Jorge (Tony)

Subject: APEAS Meeting Notes

APEAS 1st monthly meeting for 2003.

Date: Thursday, Jan 23rd 2003, 7:00 PM

Location: Sol Mar Restaurant, Newark, NJ USA

After the meal and networking session a call to order was done by Tony Almeida, the Vice President for the past term.

The President of APEAS; Joe Torres, who was not present, forwarded his intent to resign before the end of his term, resulting in Tony Almeida becoming acting President.

A new Board of Directors were nominated for the new term and members present, overwhelmingly agreed and approved, the nominations resulting in a newly elected board of the following members:

President: Tony J. Almeida

Vice President: Luis Figeiredo

Secretary: Anthony Oucidres Pereira

Treasurer: Carlos Fazenda

The final vote, for the new board will be done at the upcoming meeting, on February 20th.

A discussion of the group's mission and membership followed, all agreed that membership and attendance should increase and more dedication was needed.

The treasurer confirmed the status of the group as a 501 (c) (3), a recognized not for profit organization by the US Treasury, making any contributions and membership dues tax deductible.

Increasing membership dues or implementing one was discussed. Should the meeting dues, which pays for the meals of each member, as well as contributes a small amount of funds ($5/meeting) for membership dues itself be changed? Tony Almeida suggested a plan, where the meals (dues) be paid in advance, but reducing the number of meetings per year, to somewhere around 6-8. Some members disagreed, resulting in a plan to consider this option by the members, at the next meeting so a vote could be taken.

The intent of the plan, is not to raise funds, but to improve meeting attendance.

Example, 6 meetings per year, at $30/meal, dues would then be $180/year.

For meals/meetings members would miss, that amount would then go towards the club, as a contribution, to cover club expenses.

A review of the scholarship fund activities and awards was given by Joe Branco and Carlos Da Silva. A review of the soccer game was given and the amounts raised and distributed were discussed. It was agreed another game would be attempted for this year.

Members are encouraged to already look for potential sponsors, for this year's game.

A review of the contributions, given by the group to missionaries in Mozambique, was discussed as well as expanding this program, to include aid to homeland Portugal and to include renewable energy technologies as component of the aid.

The next meeting was scheduled for:

Date: Thursday, Feb. 20th 2003, 6:00 PM

Location: Sol Mar Restaurant, Newark, NJ USA

Meeting was adjourned at 10:15PM
