American Portuguese Engineering & Architecture Society
9/12/96 ATTENDANCE Our September 1996 meeting was considered a success by our members. We had approximately 30% of our membership in attendance. Over the past several months the administration was able to validate our list (100+ names) and now we are working from a reliable membership list of approximately 60 members and growing. Tony Almeida who is the Republican candidate for
Freeholder in Hudson County made a presentation on politics in
our community and the need for more involvement by the Portuguese
community.
Projects in the Works Bob Lopes (908-903-6217 or rlopes@lucent.com) and Maria
Branco (718-868-7900) are considering initiating a
presentation program targeted at schools where the talks are
focused on Engineering. Those interested in participating in this
project or if you have any questions or comments please contact
those leading this very worthwhile educational program. Tony Gomes (908-463-7038) is currently leading a
project in relocating the Portuguese Consulate in Newark to a new
and modern facility in the Legal Center in Newark. There are
various engineering and architectural opportunities were APEAS
members may participate. Those interested in participating in
this project or if you have any questions please contact Tony at
the above number. Under consideration for future meetings is involvement by the
younger community. If you have any suggestions please express it
our next meeting.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 17, 1996. The agenda will be a site visit to Continental Electric, owned and operated by our member Arthur Merces, where Art will tour us through the large motor manufacturing facility. We will get a quick overview of the manufacturing process from initial design specs., followed by engineering through production. Following the tour we will meet at Sol Mar Restaurant where we will hear a presentation by Jose Vital Morgado on the Portuguese Trade Commission followed by a short video on Expo 98 in Lisbon.
Proposed agendas for upcoming meetings.
In December we are planning to have a talk from a recruiter of Executives and Professionals. So if you are ready for a career move and even if your not get your resume updated and bring it in.
In January we will need to have APEAS elections, so if you are
interested in providing some leadership for 1997 and get more
involved in making APEAS a success, make it known at one of the
next meetings. We need to know the names and office positions
prior to the January meeting.
TOPIC: Financial Planning FEEDBACK The APEAS Administration needs your feedback. With your input
we can organize ourselves and create a better association. Participation is the key to success. Tell a friend. | ||||||||||||||||||
