Chairman Chuck Haytaian Names Tony Almeida as

Chair of the Portuguese American Advisory Council

Trenton, NJ - Chuck Haytaian, Chairman of the New Jersey Republican State Committee, announced Tony Almeida as the Chairman of the State Committee's Portuguese American Advisory Council

Tony Almeida was born in Portugal and moved to the United States at the age of 10. A graduate of Kean College, he serves as an Internet Business Development Manager with Lucent Technologies. As a Republican candidate for Hudson County Freeholder in 1996, he received 40% of the vote - the highest vote total of any county or federal candidate. He is currently running for the Harrison Town Council.

"I have always enjoyed being a part of the American government process. Being a representative for the interest of Portuguese-Americans in New Jersey is a great honor and I look forward to serving with Chairman Haytaian and other New Jersey leaders this year," stated Tony Almeida.

"Tony Almeida is a proven leader not only in his community, but also in Hudson County. He has always been in the forefront of issues that are of concern to the Portuguese and brings excellent experience to the table," said Chuck Haytaian.

There are numerous Advisory Council Committees affiliated with the Republican State Committee. The Portuguese Advisory Committee and others represent an effort to broaden the base of the Republican party.
