"But, it’s more important to have the views not only from myself, or from one or two prominent businessmen who do not necessarily represent the views of the Portuguese community. But instead, it’s important to get a good cross-reference of ideas from different spheres."

"That is why I’ll be launching an initiative to create an Advisory Council of Portuguese/Americans representing our community so that we have a good cross section of the issues represented in the State."

"We have over 120,000 Portuguese in NJ, 70% of them in the Newark/Harrison/Kearny area alone, and until now we have not had adequate representation of our issues at the State level."

"At this point in NJ we have a Republican majority in the NJ Assembly & Senate. We also have a Republican Governor, but almost all of our Portuguese Politicians are Democrats. This is why I believe that with the work that I have done within the Republican Party, I can bring a new level of representation that we currently don’t have access to."

"Since I have a career independent of politics, I can not single handedly be aware of all the issues affecting our community, that is why in August I’ll be initiating the creation of the New Jersey Portuguese American Republicans (NJPAR)."

The NJPAR will be created with basically 2 main purposes:

• To promote the involvement of Portuguese Americans in politics.
• To serve as an advisory council to the State Republicans, such as the NJ Senate, Assembly and Governor, on issues that affects the NJ Portuguese-Americans.

"I have already spoken to many of the State politicians and they are eager to have a forum in which to hear our issues."
